APAV participated in the X congress to study violence against women

On the second and third of December, in Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Sevilla, the tenth edition of the International Congress for the study of violence against women was held - a forum for meetings, participation, training and research on gender violence.

APAV was represented in the panel about the international experiences relates do gender violence, by Daniel Cotrim. The organization of this congress is based on the conviction that permanent and specialized training and information on gender violence and the participation of different areas directly related to its treatment, are the key to further advancing the prevention, care and eradication of gender-based violence.

The VSE´s Autumn Conference, this year with the motto “Victims’ Rights: time to act”, is taking place today at the Portuguese Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels.

João Lázaro, President of APAV and of VSE, delivered the welcome speech emphasizing not only the importance of holding moments of debate as the one’s that will be held throughout the day, but also the great honor of hosting the Conference at the Portuguese Permanent Representation to the EU (REPER).

The opening session was honoured with the presence of Ambassador Nuno Brito, Permanent Representative of Portugal to the EU and of Mervi Sarimo, Advisor to the Finnish Ministry of Justice, country that now holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The Conference will also count with distinguished speakers such as Christian D’Cunha, Head of Private Office at the European Data Protection Supervisor, Katarzyna Janicka-Pawlowsca, Head of the Victims’ Rights policy team at the DG Justice, Joanna Goodey, Head of Department at the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and Antony Pemberton, Professor of Restorative Justice at KU Leuven (Belgium) and Professor of Victimology at the Tilburg University (The Netherlands).

The day will end with a Fundraising Gala at the Autoworld, a Museum of vintage cars located at the Parc du Cinquantenaire.

Universites europeenes APAV 2019

APAV atended Universités Européennes contre le Racisme et les Discriminations, hosted by Maison des Potes, in Paris, between the October 30th and November 2nd.

The event intended to reach the civil society, national and european deputies regarding the fight against discrimination.

André Carpinelli (on the left) represented APAV in a debate with  Thomas Samuel (lawyer and secretary-general of Maison des Potes) e Jean-Philippe Duhamel (lawyer from french Court de Cassation).

APAV launches the second Newsletter of project PROVICTIMS

APAV presents the second edition of project PROVICTIMS’ digital newsletter. The project which aims to promote the role of the prosecutor in ensuring the rights of victims of crime, has been running since October 2018 and this Newsletter brings to light the activities that were implemented by APAV and its partners.

The project is co-financed by the Justice Program of the European Union and counts with the national partnerships of the Centro de Investigação de Direito Penal e Ciências Criminais da Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Lisboa (Research Center for Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon) and the Attorney General's Office. Also involved in this project are White Circle Croatia and the Basque Country Institute for Social Reintegration, two organizations which provide support to victims of crime, as well as the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, a human rights organization based in Dublin, Ireland.
