What support do we provide?

The specialised victim support services that APAV makes available at WYD are free of charge and confidential, provided by Victim Support professionals who are fluent in Portuguese and English, and who provide victims access to simultaneous translation services in case they are unable to express themselves in these languages.

Our services can be provided even if the victims do not want to press charges or report the situation to the police.

Among others, APAV is available to provide:

  • Practical support, that is, helping in situations such as cancelling bank cards, contacting diplomatic services or travel companies, accessing internet and telephone services
  • Emotional and psychological support, aiming at recovery and stabilisation.
  • Legal support, assisting in the contacts with the police and the justice system, helping the victims to exercise their rights such as being heard by the police and justice system before returning to their home country, the right to translation and interpretation, compensation and reparation, and accompanying them in all these situations, even after they return home.
